GrindXDesign was an eight-week group tele-course designed to show you how to get into the hip-hop music industry.
The series was conducted via conference call, consisting of eight recorded, one-hour "modules." That is, there was one discussion every Wednesday, for eight weeks.
The dates for the calls were as follows:
August 29th
September 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th
October 3rd, 10th and 17th
Each week, starting at 8:00pm ET, for 60-90 minutes by phone, we discussed everything you need to know to get a jump on the next man. The modules covered everything from producing to songwriting; mixtapes to social media; publicity to perfecting your mental state.
Each call featured working experts from the hip-hop music business. Guests included:
rapper Chuck D (Public Enemy)
legal activist & author Wendy Day (Rap Coalition)
producer D.J. Drama (The Aphilliates)
producer D.J. Premier (Gang Starr)
publishing administrator Jamie Purpora (TuneCore)
editor-in-chief Kim Osorio (The Source)
percussionist Questlove (The Roots)
editor-in-chief Vanessa Satten (XXL)
engineer/producer Young Guru
attorney Dan Booth (Booth Sweet LLP)
social media strategist Lena West (Influence Expansion)
film executive Arthur Wylie (Only the Crazy and Fearless Win BIG!)
mixtape mogul Marcus Frasier (DatPiff.com)
and many more...
I've tapped into the expertise of the people I know, so that I can share their expertise with you.
Plus, a question-and-answer period was designated for each call. This program has been structured to address as many questions as time allows.
I invite you to join me in a revolution of the mind: GrindXDesign. Register to access the recordings today.

As an expert covering hip-hop culture, he has been quoted in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, on National Public Radio, MTV, VH-1, CNN, the BBC, and other information channels. Others know him for his long-time association with the seminal band Public Enemy, and for his widely-heard “cameo” on their classic record, “Don’t Believe the Hype.”
Allen serves as an advisor to the Archives of African American Music and Culture (AAAMC) at Indiana University, and as the host/producer of his weekly WBAI-NY/99.5 FM radio show, NONFICTION.
Harry Allen worked in the crisis p.r. / public affairs department of computer entertainment giant Rockstar Games from 2004-2006.
